During my time as an intern with Hemyca in London, I was lucky enough to help organise and work at London Fashion Week. It truly was one of those unforgettable experiences, not only because of the amount of blood, sweat and tears that went into the whole process, but the excitement too.
Fast forward a couple of years and I was on the other side of the catwalk at London Fashion Weekend two weeks ago. And it was a great day; which obviously began with soya lattes and sausage sandwhiches in Starbucks (ok so thats not so fashionable but a girl has got to eat).
Set in the stunning Somerset house there was oodles of space for a range of brands including; Charlotte Taylor, Radley, Levis, Benefit, LabelM, Wilbur and Gussie, French sole and Kat Maconie. And of course the Diet Coke hunk photo shoot section was a winner with the boyfriends mother. A petite little lady, she looked well chuffed standing next to this huge beefcake as her photo was uploaded on to Facebook for the whole world to see, or at least her friends.
And then there was the Valentino: Master of Couture exhibition. There were some fantastic pieces on display from a range of decades and interactive videos showcasing some of the techniques used in the making of his garments. Also there was a fantastic video from the man himself, and others around him, which really gave an insight into the man and the design house. The only thing that let the exhibition down in my opinion was the curation; the layout of the main exhibit was effectively in a long corridor which made it slightly difficult to navigate. Additionally the mannequins where complete with awful wigs which brought down the whole feel of the exhibit for me. I mean master of couture and fantastic gowns dont really go well with cheap plastic looking wigs.
For anyone who wants a little slice of fashion week but cant quite blag a ticket to the real deal, London Fashion Weekend is a great alternative to get your fashion fix!
