If I cant answer the question, what do you do? with my job, what would I say....
Thats a very good question and one that got me thinking since Jenni launched this challenge. When someone asks you what do you do, you would instinctively answer with your occupation. Take that out of the equation and, at least in my brain, it's not such a simple answer.
I do expat life in Cyprus, and everything that comes with it. I do weekend trips to the beach in the summer months. I do walks in the mountains in winter months. I eat at every possible occasion; my excuse being Cypriots celebrate everything with a family feast so I am simply engaging in the culture.
I write. I try to write everyday. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes the creativity just doesn't come to me.
I do everything in my power to be a good person; to be thoughtful, to be kind and caring, to make my parents proud.
What is the correct answer to the question, what do you do? Actually I don't think there is one. You should do whatever makes you happy.
Cyprus! I'll bet it is sooo beautiful there. What an exciting journey!
ReplyDeleteOh Melody it is really beautiful, but once you factor in everyday life and working, it's not so exciting unfortunately. But I have been here for two years. At first it was a very exciting journey. Now the office is the thing I see on a daily basis and its not so beautiful! :)
DeleteLove this cute little post! And I'm with you on the eating... you must ALWAYS engage in the culture! :)
ReplyDeleteALWAYS engage in the culture Jen! Especially if the culture has great food - it would be rude not too :)
Deletei want to be an ex-pat in cyprus #completely jealous #love your blog
ReplyDeleteexpat life can be hard sometimes, especially in Cyprus because the culture is very different but it has its up sides too, like the weather, the beaches, the mediterranean lifestyle and the food! You should visit sometime phyllis to get a taste of the cyprus life! :)

ReplyDeleteI remembered being asked this question a lot in Cyprus and feeling judged when I said that I'm a homemaker. I loved pottering and keeping house, filling my days with errands, baking, and painting. I still do! I LOVE this idea of finding a new way to answer, "What do you do?"
ReplyDeleteI know it was kinda challenging to not answer with work! I would love to spend my days baking and making house, playing with kids and doing errands. Although I am not sure about doing it in Cyprus. You will be interested to know summer has come early. May is shaping up to be HOT and the humidity kicked in today.
